Fugu Ultra is the quality-focused member of Sakana AI's orchestrator-model family, designed to coordinate rather than replace frontier LLMs. According to the Sakana Fugu Technical Report, Fugu models are themselves language models trained to understand user queries and dynamically devise agentic scaffolds that combine the specializations of multiple underlying agents, aiming for collective intelligence beyond what any single LLM delivers. The Sakana product page frames the family around "frontier-level performance without single-vendor dependency," routing requests across complementary models so callers do not need to pick and combine providers themselves.

The technical report highlights results on demanding benchmarks such as SWE-Bench Pro, Terminal Bench, LiveCodeBench, GPQA-Diamond, Humanity's Last Exam, and CharXiv Reasoning, positioning Ultra as the variant that prioritizes answer quality on the hardest problems.
