Seed 1.8 (251228) (ByteDance)

Seed 1.8 (251228) is cataloged as the latest dated checkpoint in ByteDance's Seed family, presenting itself as a multimodal model that accepts both text and images while returning text-only outputs. The DateCode suffix 251228 anchors the release to late December 2025, and the family context situates it as a progression from earlier Seed checkpoints such as Seed 1.6 and Seed 1.6 Vision. Its closed-weights status means the model is accessed through hosted endpoints rather than through self-hosted deployments, and no Hugging Face release is available.

Beyond core generation, the model is described as a general-purpose system suitable for agentic workloads, with listed capabilities covering reasoning, tool calling, structured output, attachment handling, and temperature control. The image-input pathway lets it take on visual understanding tasks alongside text, while the tool-calling and structured-output flags point to practical use in production pipelines that need predictable, machine-readable responses. Developers integrating the model can do so through the LLM Gateway route, giving them a single access point for comparing it against other frontier alternatives offered on the same platform.
