Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5 on September 22, 2026, calling it the first model in a new Claude 5.5 family and its most advanced system to date. The company said Opus 5.5 runs about 40% cheaper than Opus 5 and generates output more than 30% faster, while emphasizing capabilities for complex, long-running tasks such as large-scale code work. Pricing was set at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, with cache reads at $0.20 per million, and Anthropic cited a 680,000-line migration finished in under a day. Benchmarks included 66.4% on Terminal-Bench 4.0 and 54.4% on FrontierCode v1.1, with availability on AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure under the identifier claude-opus-5-5. Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 are expected in the coming weeks.
