Mistral Nemo

Mistral NeMo is a 12-billion-parameter dense transformer developed jointly by Mistral AI and NVIDIA as an open-weight release aimed at broad multilingual use. The model relies on a standard transformer design, which lets it serve as a straightforward drop-in replacement for Mistral 7B in existing pipelines, and it was released with both pre-trained base and instruction-tuned checkpoints under the Apache 2.0 license. Training incorporated quantisation awareness, allowing the checkpoints to run FP8 inference with no loss in accuracy, a practical benefit for teams deploying the model on commodity GPUs or on local runtimes such as LM Studio where it ships in GGUF format around 6.90 GB with roughly 7 GB of RAM recommended.

Beyond raw scale, Mistral NeMo targets global applications through an explicit multilingual curriculum that emphasises English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, and Hindi, paired with function-calling training for tool integration. Its 128k-token context window supports long-document reasoning, summarisation, and code workflows, and the model is positioned in its size class as state-of-the-art on reasoning, world knowledge, and coding accuracy, with comparisons drawn against Gemma 2 9B and Llama 3 8B.
