Claude Fable 5.1 is Anthropic's most intelligent Fable-family model and is positioned as the best generally available option for coding, agents, and knowledge work, with deeper reasoning aimed at enterprise workflows. Anthropic released it on September 2, 2026, alongside Claude Mythos 5.1, describing the pair as the same underlying model with different safeguards: Fable 5.1 is generally available, while Mythos 5.1 is limited to trusted access programs with stronger protections for cybersecurity and life sciences work. On Microsoft Foundry, the model is offered under the "Models from Partners and Community" track, reflecting that the weights and capabilities come from Anthropic while Azure handles integration, deployment, and billing infrastructure.

Beyond capability claims, Fable 5.1 represents a deliberate step toward more cost-efficient agentic workloads, with Anthropic stating the model is roughly 25 percent cheaper than its predecessor for typical token-billed usage and up to about 45 percent cheaper for highly agentic work, driven primarily by reduced cache-read pricing. Anthropic also highlights improved safeguards that cut false positives, particularly a 60 percent reduction in cybersecurity false positives, paired with a new Enterprise Frontier Safeguards approach that aims to give customers privacy equivalent to zero data retention.
