GPT-5.3 Codex

GPT-5.3-Codex is OpenAI's latest agentic coding model, designed to extend what Codex can do across the full spectrum of professional computer work. Unlike previous coding assistants that primarily wrote and reviewed code, this model can execute complex tasks across the entire software development lifecycle—research, tool use, multi-step execution, and interactive collaboration all in one session. Its architecture is built for steerability, meaning users can guide and redirect the model mid-task without losing context, much like working alongside a capable colleague. The model accepts both text and image inputs, enabling it to reason across code, UI states, architecture diagrams, and design comps in a single workflow. This multipurpose, multimodal design positions it as a tool for frontend development, context-aware code reviews, and repository-wide refactoring and test automation.

What sets GPT-5.3-Codex apart is its own development lineage: it is the first model that was instrumental in creating itself. The Codex team used early versions to debug training pipelines, manage deployment, and diagnose test results—accelerating its own development in ways the team found striking. The model combines the frontier coding performance of its predecessor GPT-5.2-Codex with the reasoning and professional knowledge capabilities of GPT-5.2, achieving state-of-the-art results on SWE-Bench Pro and Terminal-Bench 2.0 while delivering 25% faster performance with fewer tokens. On OSWorld-Verified, performance jumped from 38.2% to 64.7% compared to the prior generation, and it became the first model classified as "High capability" for cybersecurity tasks under OpenAI's Preparedness Framework. This makes GPT-5.3-Codex particularly well-suited for enterprise SaaS environments and long-running development tasks where sustained reasoning, tool orchestration, and interactive steering are essential.
